Trial teams spend years building relationships of trust with participants, and participants have often taken a jump into the unknown. It's important to keep these relationships and communications going.

There are obviously many logistical factors influencing this. But much of it can be addressed through simple conversations:

  • Avoid framing early withdrawals as a "failure", and focus on the important contributions they have made during participation
  • Asking if and how participants want to be contacted after a trial ends
  • Explaining what types of communication are and aren't possible (and why)
  • Keeping feedback channels open to explore what went well and what could be improved
  • Putting channels in place to keep in touch about future opportunities
