Trial teams spend years building relationships of trust with participants, and participants have often taken a jump into the unknown. It's important to keep these relationships and communications going.
What site teams can do:
There are obviously many logistical factors influencing this. But much of it can be addressed through simple conversations:
Avoid framing early withdrawals as a "failure", and focus on the important contributions they have made during participation
Asking if and how participants want to be contacted after a trial ends
Explaining what types of communication are and aren't possible (and why)
Keeping feedback channels open to explore what went well and what could be improved
Putting channels in place to keep in touch about future opportunities
